Artefact 1 Evaluation
The first artefact that I have created was made using a capture card to capture video and audio from my playstation 3 to my pc. I ran into a few problems with which lead to the first 2 captures to have no audio but the video was there. The program that I used to capture this is called Pinnacle Studio HD which came with the capture device which has 2 methods of capture one is called AMCapture and the other is directly through Pinnacle Studio HD itself.
What I found was that because the game that I was capturing from was linear I had to capture certain aspects in order to give the Machinima a narrative. What I expected was different from what I found due to the game already having a story, I had move the scenes around in order to tell the narrative that I wanted to tell. Something else that I found was the character expressions were severely limited and it was hard if not impossible to get a happy or angry expression but I think because that’s how the game was made there were going to be limitations.
With AMCapture I was not gaining any sound but after looking online and going through settings I found that I had to capture using Pinnacle Studio HD, Whilst the game was limiting in the scenes and expressions I think I have done a good job in making a small Machinima film, but there is a lot that I want to be able to like character expression and custom voice acting as well as putting characters in poses that they are not already limited to. I went and met up with my group and we disccused the malac idea and what peoples jobs where gonna be as well as do a proposal and a treatment.

Proposal

When a demoralised, disorientated man finds himself in a hostage situation, a world of confusion begins; his where abouts is unknown as he struggles to remember how he got there. A twisted woman holds the key to his future, is he innocent?

Treatment 1

He is tied up to a chair, the room is dark and the air is moist, there is hardly any light you cannot see much. He is sweating a bit. A silhouette of a woman walks in; all you hear are her foot steps. The man face looks rugged and confused of where and why he is here. She says in a calm and polite term “are you sure you wouldn’t like a drink”, the camera focuses on her face as she smiles and she says “it’s never too late to change your mind”. Focus’s on his face, he looks frightened and he says “I swear. I swear. please. Stop, Please? The woman brings a case in front of her; the shot is of her doing this, she says “sush. be quiet. quiet, It will no longer be necessary to lie. He says “I swear…”. She says whist opening the case “shush, shush, I have here a MALac. God it’s beautiful. He says “Don’t. Don’t. I swear. She says in a pleased voice “Malacs. Now no more shall we part on this path of truth we find ourselves on. Opening the case, its glowing sheen plays on her face. She says “pain, enlighting truth. This is what MALac brings. Shall we continue? She removes the MALac and shutting the case steps forward towards the man, the man turns his head away from the MALac. Man steps out of the shadows and forces he’s head towards the MALac. He screams.

The End

Charlotte took photographs of her basement but we are going to look at a few more locations and take photographs there before we decide on an actual location

ok so this was my 3rd video log and was about my bike and i was just talking about my bike really and thats about it sounds boring but if you watch it you may like it :D

This video log im giving a tour of my room and i talk about stuff in my room i say erm alot i know

This video log is slightly wierd and it was inspired by a friend of mine who had 1 of my leather gloves which she had stolen on a night out and i asked for it back and she was like iv taken it hostage and want a ransom for it, and then i talked to her about the idea and she loved the idea so i went and made a video with hand puppets but it was pretty fun to make

and thats all iv done so far, i have to edit and upload a video of me playing guitar im still new at it and suck but i can play a little bit iv only been playing for like 4 days but im making some progress so ill have that uploaded and edited soonish

Data Management

Getting your pc and laptop hacked isnt the best thing in the world, its also has to be one of the worst things that can happen to you, especially if the hacker wiped your hard drives on both your laptop and pc.

Now what this means is that you loose all your work and if your back ups were connected to your machines chances are they were wiped to. Now what to do you do if you loose all your work. Theres not a lot you can do, unless you back up your work on a regular basis. Backing up your work on to your computer or your laptop isnt the best way to back up.

I have managed to recover some work through my emails because when i was at uni i used to email my work home if i accidently left my usb at uni. This also isnt the best way to back up because if the servers were to go down you would be really screwed over and not able to access your work.

After looking around on the internet, talking to a few friends I found outt he best way to back up your work is by using a Re-writable cd or dvd so that after every session you can create a folder, date it, save it and put the cd or dvd away for use at a later time. This way you can keep the work you got and will have progression to go with it.

I have done 2 batches of igor my butler at the moment its just a head but i am going to start making the body soon, the first set of photos i used boolean which ended up messing everything up as i couldnt animate it without the polygons exploding.

This was my orginal idea for Igor the little impish buttler for my vampiress

this time i used the morphing tool to give him some facial expressions and its turned out really well, am starting to love character making lots its really fun

Of Bots and Banana's

When developing my robot for the animation of Of Bots and Banana's i had to work on animating my robot manually because of the kinimatics i was using, were different to the ones that andy had given us.

This was a bit of a challenge at first to get it moving but after a while it became fun and challenging. This also allowed me to create a very unique walk for my robot allowing for some human like freedom and a little bit of floatyness.

When i was animating my robot i thought of my most favourite robot and the most silliest walk i could think of and combine them together. So i looked at Short Circuit and looked at how jonny 5 reacted with things even tho he was a robot, he thought he was alive, i then mixxed in the robot thinking it was alive with monty pythons ministry of silly walks and made him walk as silly as possible.

The gag of the animation was the robot to walk around the corner and slip on a banana peel followed by crashing into a wall. The only problems i encounted doing this was the crash which resualted in a slow stop and the robots arm was clipping through the wall in places.

I miss used the colour purple as the background colour which i now know was a bad idea and i will think about background ideas in the future.

Im gonna keep developing my skills as an animator and 3D designer

My Card Game is a arena based fighting game where it pits monsters/champions against each other and they have to fight till theres 1 left alive or the other team is defeated and its going well but it has a lot of room for improvement which i found out

So on tuesday we was asked to bring in proto types of our card games in and i had taken mine to the session. i had no idea on how i was gonna play my game even tho i had the proto type ready i was planning on playing it with a rock papers sissors system but decided to not go with that at the last minute.

I ended up with an attack and defence type game where one player attacks using their monster and the other player defends, i included in 4 wild cards as well which changed the fate of battle.

the cards i included were 5 Monsters on both sides going from level 1 - 5
4 Wild cards 2 of those were the same and 2 were different
7 Attack Cards
7 Defence Cards
7 Special Cards

It was pretty dull at the begining i think because the level 1 and 2 monsters didnt have any special abilities but with a wild card equipped my level 2 thrashed its way through most of alex's monsters but when alex got his level 4 my level 2 didnt even see the light of day.

we disscussed a lot of things anda lot ways to change it and make it better.

Here are the ideas we came up with:
instead of there being 5 levels of monsters make only 3 levels
3xLevel 1 Monster
2xLevel 2 Monster
1XLevel 3 Monster

all monsters have effects but their effects are similar and they get stronger as the level of the monster gets higher as well as increasing the amount of hearts each monster has.

The special cards are limited to 4 so special effects are limited
Changed the name of Wild Card to Artifacts and increase the number to 8 from 4
Added in a Refreshment Phase

Refreshment Phase: Anytime during the game if you find yourself out of Attacl,Defense or Special you can refresh your exhausted cards at the cost of not being able to do anything that turn. This allows you to regain your attack, defense and special cards but at the cost of allowing your oppenant to attack you and you being unable to block unless you have an ability that allows you to block an attack.

There are 16 Artifact cards upped from 8 each player now gets 8 Artifact cards instead of only having 4 allowing the game to be played at a more strategical level.
Level 1 monsters can equip 1 artifact
Level 2 monsters can equip 2 artifacts
Level 3 monsters can equip 3 artifacts

Limiting Attacking to the amount of times a card can attack
Level 1 has 1 attack standard + any extras he gets from effects or equipments
Level 2 has 2 attacks standard + any extras it may have from effects equipment
Level 3 has 3 attacks standard + any extras it may have from effects or equipment

I am gonna put a number on each of the cards points to signify the cost of each attribute depending on the number depends on how many cards you may need to exhaust

3A = 3 Attack Cost which means you need to use 3 Attack Cards to make a successful Attack
2S = 2 Speical Cost which means you need to exhaust 2 special cards to use an ability
1D = You only need to use 1 Defend Card to make a successful defend

Hopefully on tuesday next week i can get some more play testing done and somemore feed back but i do feel the game is quite solid.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children: Complete Review

I have recently bought this movie on blu-ray and i own the original Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children movie on dvd and iv seen it way too many times due to it being a really good film.

Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children complete looks a whole lot better than its original and not due to the fact it is a blu-ray movie but due to the fact it has had "over 1000 revised scenes" and things look completly different the main differences are
-HD-ness
-extra attention to detail (dirt, blood, etc.)
-remade scenes
-new scenes
-"On the Way to a Smile" OVA.

Which adds a lot to the story,and helps tell it better than the original movie and you can really tell the difference between both films if you have seen the orginal alot and you can really apprechiate how its been reworked as well, when i watched it in blu-ray for the first time my jaw dropped i watched the entire movie in awe.

The story is a sequel to a video game called Final Fantasy 7 which is a really good rpg that came out on the playstation 1. The story continues from a few years later after what happened in the game. im not gonna spoil the story because its something you got to watch.

The modeling is amazing and i wouldnt expect anything less from Square - Enix, the setting is really great during the day, and during a certain part of the movie there are glowing trees which look really great and give off alot of light but you can still see details in the tree, the special effects are great too and being able to see the bullets from the guns go flying past at a near split second was really good,

The Fight scenes are pretty imense and look great the special effects from the swords grinding and sparks flying are great, when a building falls down it looks so realistic in how it falls the machanics are really amazing.

The film is amazing and is something you should atleast watch once even if its the dvd version its a film with great animating and great design and even greater story

Uncharted 2

Uncharted 2 an up coming game soon to be released PS3 game was shown on theater screens in San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

now normally games dont even hit the theaters but dam this is big the graphics look pretty amazing for a console third person shooter and the online multiplayer beta was pretty sweet too. i should of taken screen shots of it at the time but i was too hyped up that i got picked for a beta.

3DS Max Journal Exercise

For this exercise we were asked to create a 3D object and write how it represents us. in my case i would be a pyramid because no matter how many different ways i look at things ill always end up at the same point. Also i kinda like to get to the point.

The colour that i have chosen i purple because it seems to be my favourite colour at the moment because it just is. Green used to be my favourite but its now 2nd O_O.

Well the material on my pyramid is smooth, like the palm of my hands which are also smooth.

Research

we was asked so many questions for our journal exercise and here is mine the first two questions i had put together and the rest are seperate.

My creativity has been the ideas that I have developed and my ideas that I have created or have gotten inspiration from over the years. I have taken these ideas and melded them together so I can try to create something unique from them. The ideas that I have created for my creativity have so far been for me. This is so I can better myself by reflecting on pieces that I have created before and make them better or change them completely.

I often ask myself why I have done it this way, what if I did it that way. But then I also ask my self did I do this because I wanted to do this or did I do this for someone else. The only real answer I can give is I dunno, I guess everything I have done is pretty much 50/50 any work that I have done for college is stuff I have been asked to do, but things outside college are the things have been my decision.

The future of my creativity would have to be something that comes from the heart. I put all of my heart and soul into objects that I create and I feel the objects to sometimes be an extension of myself maybe part of my personality. When I become a games designer I want the gamers to feel the same as I did when they play games that I make. I want them to feel emotion, sadness of loosing someone, gaining strength of protecting what you think is important to you. Plus other things, I think that the world of gaming is evolving and becoming more of an art than a past time.

I am not sure if my research can help me get to new places but I do feel that I help me understand things better. And by know about things better I guess it does kind of help me but I don’t think it helps me move to new places, it just helps me understand things.

I prefer the “Pilot” research starting point because I am the kind of person who learns more by doing. I like to use the term monkey see monkey do because I have learnt a lot about 3DS max just by following tutorials and by doing what the tutorials tell me.

I really don’t like the sound of “Interim” research because to me it doesn’t really feel practical.

The only research points that feel relevant to me are the Pilot, Exploratory and Descriptive research because I feel they are the right choices for me and that I can use these methods.

hey guys i went on imvu and messed around for a bit.

i really like the avatar design system they have for imvu its really great, i am considering basing my avatar on how theirs are.

so i am just starting out here and i chose a pre design for my avatar looks cool

now imvu is great i love it way more than 2nd life and its avatar creatability is better than home's. i really enjoyed my time on 2nd life. i will soon be posting some screenshots of Lineage2 which is an online game that i play. its online and massivily multiplayer in short its an MMO created by NCsoft.

i like the way the IMVU avatars look i especially love the way the hair is in segments. i like the fact that your avatar teleports to places that you click on and the fact that people can create rooms with pictures or water and stuff. all in all IMVU was a good experience or atleast it was for me.

also getting money isn't really a problem because they give u promtional credits that you can spend. you get these credits by doing the tutorial thats how i got my wings and my new eyes :D

i was working on photoshop today and i had been a while so i had to familarise my self with the tools.

in todays identities seminar we were making mood boards i didnt really get that far but i did a bit which i then scrapped and started fresh.

i have made 2 mood boards which are similar to each other. having made the first one i didnt like the look of some of the pictures and decided to changed it but instead of just saving over i made 2 saves.

Yesterday we had a seminar with jools and we talked about alot of things. We talked a bit about the movie we saw earlier that day among other things. we talked about the essays that we had wrote and we had talked about the essay we are going to do as well.

since my review with roma i have been thinking about how to better myself in the area that i want to work in. And to broaden my view on things i am going to broaden my infomation about 3D designing and even in video games.

soon to come ill be posting up some screenshots and links to forums that i go on that are gamebased and the disscussions that happens. ill be posting screenshots of the games that i am currently playing. And im going to talk about character design and object/character physics. i am also going to create 3D models that intrest me, things like warhammer models and even attempting to recreate video game characters.

I went on my playstation 3 today and i went on a program called home.

i have not used home before but its simlar to 2nd life.

The character creation was somewhat easier and all together it was way way way way way more fun than 2nd life. i have made some videos on home using my mobilie phone.

all in all i find home to be way better than 2nd life, because the areas i am in are already there and i dont need to worry about buildings popping out of the ground even though with home i have to download each area which i dont mind but atleasts its all there for when i want to do things. Interacting with people is great fun like playing bowling or playing pool or even playing on the arcade machines.

ill have to give home another go in a day or 2

p.s playing some of the games with 1 hand on the controller and 1 hand on the camera is hard XD

Identities: 2nd Life

ok so second life, its a bit crap. iv spent like a week on it and i cant stand being on it for more than 30 minutes a day. so now iv compiled all my images.

but as crap as i think 2nd life has its role and it is there for people who want to have an avatar that represents them in a virtual enviroment. this allows them to be whoever they want to be and do what they want to do. even if its things you cant do in real life like flying for example. some people will spend hours on 2nd life doing jobs, hanging out or doing whatever.

Richard Kenton Webb – The Cloud of Unknowing

I have been asked to write about the difference between colour and light in paintings by certain artists.

This painting by Richard Kenton Webb is called “The Cloud of Unknowing”. This painting shows a great deal between the contrast of light and darkness. The rocks facing you are dark which gives the effect of a sunset in the backgrounds. The contrast between the light and dark in this picture shows because the ground is fairly light and what seems to be like a seaside with a broken windmill in the background.

Richard Kenton Webb has used an interesting use of colours, because the sand is almost red which kind of looks like clay and the sea looks clear and has a really authentic feel to it. Even thought the building at the back looks a bit like a windmill it kind of reminds me of Indiana Jones hat near the front and an axe towards the back.

The blue light in the backgrounds remind me of lightning and looks as if it has struck something and its exploded creating a ray of light against the cliff walls. Behind the Indiana Jones hat axe looks like an ice berg with a miniature mountain on top of it.

Heres what i did when i was asked to alter existing colours on an image to create a new theme and emotion for the image.

I made the hair purple because it was the only colour that suited this character. By making his hair purple your are more drawn to his hair than you are to his eyes.

With Zoros Hair changed from green to blue it looks different but to me the colour is not dark enough because the green is a light green so no matter what i tried it wouldnt go darker.

Now that’s crazy paying 17,000 dollars for a Playstation 3 that was signed by Hideo Kojima the creator of Metal Gear Solid 4. This just goes to show that people are more than willing to pay more for there products.

There are different models of the Playstation 3, the 60gig Playstation 3 plays Playstation 3, Playstation 2 and Playstation 1 games as well as being able to surf the internet and play Blueray and DVD Movies. The 40gig and 80gig can play Playstation 3 and 1 games but not Playstation 2 games but it can still play Blueray and DVD movies as well as surf the internet just like the 60gig version.

The Playstation 3 is more than just a gaming console it’s functions as a DVD player and Blueray Player which is great for watching films together as a family on a HD or non HD screen.

The first time I interacted with a gaming interface I was just playing the game normally without knowing what it was. But now when I look back I can easily see that the games interface was simple and easy to understand which was why I didn’t really think about it. This game was called Diablo 2 created by Blizzard and I was around 10-13 when I played it. On the bottom of the screen there is an interface which consists of a red orb for health, an action button, a sprint and experience bar, potions, another action bar and the blue orb of mana. This interface is simple but can be made really difficult or easy depending on which point of view you look at it. You can add macros to the action bars so by pressing f1 on the keyboard you can bring up a certain skill that you may want to use against an enemy or another player.

As the years went by interfaces changed and different games used different interfaces although most of them are different they share some similarities.

There is a game that I have been playing on and off is called the World of Warcraft. The greatest thing I find about this game is the ability to customise your interface to how you please. You can spend hours editing how your game looks and download all these different addons and interfaces till you get one that suites you best. You can download other people’s interfaces which they have made or you can make your own using editing tools and then share it across the internet using named websites where people are surely to visit. Some of the interfaces that you can get are really intractable because some of them allow you to move things to where you want them or even able to resize them in the game whilst you’re playing which is great because then you can have your own set up.

I believe in the future interfaces will slowly move away from computer games and even move to TV’s which allow you to have graphic art acting like a boarder around those movies that leave black lines or even make it so your able to program macros into your TV controller and have it bring up a certain teletext page and take you to certain channels on your TV. I also think that as time progresses sky and virgin media boxes will have different interfaces. In the world of gaming interfaces are slowly disappearing and becoming none existent. A lot of shooter games are now going for minimal interfaces so that the user can see more from their screens without things cluttering the screen. In the world of gaming interfacings are dying but I have hopes from places like sky and Virgin Media.

its easy to use you can record on it, you can edit the sound pitch and make something sound really squeaky or demonic or stuff. its free i used it when i was at college and its good.

For those of you who dont know me im the asian guy with red hair, YEH IM THAT GUY XD. iv got a mega long name but Sonny is one of those and i liked to be called Sonny(pronounced Sunny). I like a lot of things and I hate a lot a things. I enjoy cyclying, listening to music(mainly rock, ok i just listen to rock music and nothing else), playing computer games, snowboarding, hanging around with friends and other stuff i cant remember this point in time.

My first week of uni has gone good. I have made a few friends and I have made a stop motion animation of a box that turns into a drill and drills through a house and then it turns back into a box again at the end. I enjoyed doing that small project and I worked with Tom, Dan and Sam.

What do i want to get out of my course in addition to passing.
